The OBV5-C40-PV series consists of DC Surge Protective Devices (SPDs) designed for use in Photovoltaic applications. These surge protective devices offer protection from lightning currents and overvoltage surges in systems ranging from 500Vdc to 1500Vdc.

The use of photovoltaic solar panels for power generation is highly intriguing in the context of renewable energy sources, especially for economically efficient photovoltaic systems connected to the public electricity grid. However, due to their exposure, often in remote locations and their extensive surface area, photovoltaic systems (PV) are vulnerable to lightning strikes, which pose significant risks. These risks include both the direct effects of lightning on structures and the surge overvoltages that can impact the entire installation, especially the cells connected to inverters.

To address this challenge, we have developed a specific Din Rail product to protect the DC side of solar cells and inverters from power surges, whether in power plants or residential applications. The use of Metal Oxide Varistors (MOVs) ensures that overvoltages are limited to the protection level specified for the OBV5-C40-PV DC surge protector.

Our surge protectors, as recommended by industry standards and guidelines, provide comprehensive protection for all possible scenarios, including between positive and negative, positive and ground, and negative and ground connections. Additionally, each surge arrester can be equipped with an optional auxiliary contact to signal the end-of-life status, ensuring maximum efficiency and safety.
