The OBV5-C40-PV series is a range of DC Surge Protective Devices (SPD) designed for use in Photovoltaic applications. These surge protective devices offer protection from lightning currents and overvoltage surges in systems ranging from 500Vdc to 1500Vdc.

Generating power with photovoltaic solar panels is highly appealing in the context of renewable energy sources, especially for cost-effective photovoltaic systems connected to the public electricity grid. However, due to their exposure, often in remote locations, and the extensive surface area of photovoltaic systems (PV), lightning strikes pose a significant risk. This risk encompasses both the direct impact of lightning on the structures and the surge overvoltages affecting the entire installation. Typically, solar cells are associated with inverters. To address this challenge, we’ve developed a specific Din Rail product to protect the DC side of cells and inverters from power surges in power plants or residential applications.

Utilizing Metal Oxide Varistors (MOVs), the overvoltage is restricted to the voltage protection level specified for the OBV5-C40-PV DC surge protector. Our surge protector, as recommended in industry standards and guidelines, ensures comprehensive protection, covering all scenarios (between positive and negative, positive and ground, negative and ground). As an option, each surge arrester can be equipped with an auxiliary contact to signal the end-of-life status, ensuring maximum efficiency.
